The Pons family manages 60 hectares of vineyards between the Subirats district in the North to the Rovellar estate in Sant Marçal in the Baix Penedès, which allows us to cultivate wines with delicacy and strength, expressing the geographical characteristics of the Penedes area from the different varieties of grape.
The Pons estates are located in the following areas of the Alt Penedès: La Granada del Penedès, Vilafranca del Penedès, Santa Fe del Penedès, Lavern (Subirats), Avinyonet del Penedès. Baix Penedès: Sant Marçal.
The soil of our estates tends to be characterised by its properties of lime and clay, and whilst the Alt Penedes has deep oscillations and a greater capacity to retain water.
In terms of climate, the Alt Penedès has a marked contrast between day and night temperatures, reaching high temperatures during the day and becoming very fresh at night, whilst the Baix Penedès is more influenced by the sea, with higher concentration of sun and more temperate climates, hotter and more humid summers. The combination of these conditions in climate and the variations in the composition and richness of the land are conditioning factors in the maturity of the vineyard.
In 2013, Joan Pons i Font, head of the wine cellar, began the conversion to ecological wine, allowing us to guarantee our consumer an environmentally friendly agricultural system, using low doses of sulphur and copper, fulfilling our commitment to produce more natural wines which respect the nature and culture of our environment.
These are two family vineyards located in a privileged area for the cultivation of the highly expressive Xarel·los, with the hill to the west of the village of La Granada, where we cultivate our most expressive wines, the Montargull Xarel·lo barrel and part of the cava Montargull Xarel·lo barrel. We cultivate 1.5 hectares of Xarel·lo and 0.5 of Parellada. The land is characterised by the combination of lime and stone and with the influence of the sea and a good thermal contrast due to its altitude of 311 metres.
The Lavern estate is located in the valley Sant Sebastià dels Gorgs and Lavern, in an area of one of the most dramatic thermal contrasts in the Penedes region. The estate is characterised by a high quantity of limescale and a high percentage of organic material. In this zine we have three hectares of Macabeu, seven hectares of Xarel·lo and three of Chardonnay.
The family estate in Santa Fe del Penedès is located at 250 metres above sea level and consists of 10 hectares. The type of earth is clayey and limey with an average level of organic material. The varieties planted here are Macabeu, Xarel·lo, Xarel·lo vermell, Merlot and Malvasia de Sitges.
